Cold Morning

We are living in a subdivision which is considered to be very exclusive that only 1% of the city’s population is financially able to live here. Now, we are not rich and we don’t own a single unit in this extravagant subdivision. We are just lucky to be here because my husband’s company has an excellent way of looking after its employees. All their employees are living in this subdivision because it’s supposed to be safe. There are security guards everywhere and they wouldn’t allow an outsider to come in without any important business here. It’s crazy sometimes how many questions they ask every time I invite friends to come over.
Anyway, this place claims to have state of the art facilities which make the living conditions way easier and comfortable for its homeowners. For most of it, I have to agree. This whole place is well designed; sports facilities, playgrounds and nice parks are available. Apartments and houses are pretty too. I have to say, it’s very luxurious for my taste. But we have one problem. It seems to be always cold inside our apartment. We have a very good floor heating system and we also heat with our heating appliance but it feels like the heat cannot be contained inside the flat. My husband says that this is because we have really high windows which allow the heat to escape. Unfortunately, double glazing is still not available here like it is in Europe.
It’s surprising because double glazing is reasonably cheap nowadays. I don’t know if the developers of this subdivision overlooked it or maybe double glazing is still unheard of here. It’s disappointing considering that we are in China—a place where every thing is supposed to be manufactured. The developers could have had spared their homeowners from unnecessary heating expenses if they have installed double glazing for the big windows and doors. It’s too bad for me–a tropical girl who is used to warm temperatures. Ahhhh! I really do hate being cold!
